At BRAC Global Social Foundation (BRAC®), we are more than an organization — we are a movement of changemakers united by a simple but powerful belief: every individual deserves justice, dignity, and opportunity.
Founded in 2015 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, BRAC began with the conviction that real change starts at the grassroots — when individuals are empowered, communities are strengthened, and victims of injustice are given a voice. Our focus spans Environment, Healthcare, Education and Human Rights — four pillars we believe are essential for a stronger, fairer society.
Our Identity
Our name — Bureau of Randomly Active Committee (BRAC) — represents our proactive nature. “Randomly Active” does not mean scattered; it reflects our readiness to act wherever the need arises — whether in a drought-stricken village, a city hospital facing medical negligence, or a classroom where a child is denied education.
We proudly hold BRAC® and Bureau of Randomly Active Committee® as registered trademarks (2015–2035) under the Indian Trade Marks Act, 1999, a mark of our trust and credibility.
Additionally, with 12A and 80G certifications, we ensure financial transparency and encourage individuals, institutions, and corporations to contribute through tax-deductible donations that directly strengthen our mission.
Our Legacy
BRAC was founded by Mohammed Shehbaz Shaikh, a social reform advocate and community leader who continues his family’s long legacy of public service.
Shehbaz’s lineage is rooted in service to society:
